Help Needed

The Animal Pad OH/IN/KY Branch has agreed to help out with numerous dogs in need. A majority of them have no financial backing, and thus far we only have $30.00 pledged for a litter of five orphaned puppies. We will have more puppies coming in over the next two weeks from a hoarding case, and are looking for foster homes, monetary donations, and supplies (food, puppy pads, beds, blankets, towels, treats, toys, etc.).

We will need to provide vetting for the five puppies arriving today (11/21), along with spays/neuters, deworming, vaccinations, and so on. In addition to these puppies, we were asked if we could take a little yorkie boy who had an adopter, but after health problems were discovered, they were unable to take him without knowing for sure the extent of his condition(s).

We know that this poor boy is in pain, he needs a full dental and numerous extractions. Also, that he may have bladder stones, or some type of intestinal infection, blockage, or similar. He will need to have labwork done, X-rays, and whatever else to get him a diagnosis and treatment. I have left the ChipIn blank for this reason. Any over-payment will be used toward the rescue of the hoarding case puppies.

Please help as you are able to, and never apologize for an amount, donations of any size are needed and greatly appreciated!

Below are pictures of the sick yorkie and the orphan puppies who are coming to us today. Once we receive pictures of the hoarding case puppies, we will post those here, too.

Transport Recommendation

When I recommend Royce for transport, I normally share pictures of her setup. Sadly she doesn't have them compiled in an album somewhere (cough cough), and they're scattered on Facebook in her mobile uploads. I figured I'd make a post here and add the pictures, so that way I can link this to people and not have to hunt down picture links on Facebook.

We have used Royce before to transport, and were very pleased with everything. I (Lori) personally know Royce and have paired up to do some adoption events with her, and can say that I have first-hand experience with seeing how well she cares for these dogs. They all had impeccably clean large crates, comfy beds, blankets, bully sticks, and the best chow (raw steak, steamed veggies - they eat better than I do).

The worst thing I heard someone say about her is that she was late. Well, I'd like to say that it's the rescues (people like me, sadly) that cause this. On a multi-dog transport, if we are all even 15 minutes late, we can cause her to be several hours late and sadly, she takes the flack for it.

Anyway, you won't find any transport that offers such a safe, caring, and comfortable setup for your dogs. She has amazingly good pricing, too. As you'll see in the pictures, the dogs are in spacious crates, and provided with beds, clean linens, she also uses hospital bands to properly ID each dog/crate (love this), and even has a little stretching/potty area. If you check out the Angels N Paws Rescue page, you'll see pics from her transports. Those pictures show her at parks, hotel/motels, etc. walking the dogs, letting them stretch, potty, and play, and all of the things we all worry and wonder about if they happen or not on transport. She also does not transport alone, so someone is always there to check on the pups while the other drives.

If you're interested in transport, shoot her an EMAIL (<--click there for email).

Below are pictures of her setup. I added some from when she first got the vehicle, and when she hired a company to install ac/vents in the back for the pups, and then pics showing the crates, beds, water bowls, clean linens, potty area, etc..

Maybe there's a nice company out there we could band together and find to donate a bitchin' paint job?!

Royce, thank you from all of us at The Animal Pad for taking such wonderful care of Sarah and all of the other dogs you've helped to save, and transport. If a picture can say a thousand words, these pictures have a lot of words that describe how much you care about dogs. You've invested so much of your time, and obviously money, into creating this beautiful "Dog Limousine".

Helping One of Our Own

Helping One of Our Own....

As you may know, our beloved rescue partner, Lori Crosby, has fallen terribly ill. Several tests results are still pending, and without those, we do not know what the future holds for her in regards to a treatment plan. Focusing on the *Right Now*, we know she has been hospitalized for a couple of weeks, and we would like to help her alleviate some of her stresses during such a trying time. All pertinent info will be provided below, and can also be found on the ChipIn, and WePay website links. Lori has done SO MUCH for the animals and now its our turn to return the favor.

To mail a donation, or to donate using Chase QuickPay (Chase customers only) please send us an email!

Around this time last month, Lori embarked on her journey from Southern California to Kentucky, with goals to spend time with family, expand The Animal Pad to the Midwest, and enroll in Veterinary College. Within less than two weeks, she presumed she was exhausted, a common symptom of over-exertion, which she was easily able to contribute to packing up her things and across the states in three days. That exhaustion quickly escalated to being gravely ill, which led her to an emergency room in Kentucky. Lori has tried throughout this time to keep many people updated (and even tried to save a dog while hospitalized) giving details as she's able to, albeit being somewhat vague in order to avoid causing any additional stress to her child at home.

As many know, Lori has dedicated her life to animal advocacy. She's invested a great portion of her time, and her savings in order to save the lives of many, many dogs. She has been involved in charity work since she was a young teenager working with children who have special needs, and those involved in social services. Due to a very unfortunate turn of events, she has been forced to place her goals on hold in order to fight for her health.

What had started off as a trip to the ER for dehydration, it led to numerous tests, and her being poked with so many needles that on the 8th, the nurses were unable to find any good veins left. She had X-Rays, Ultrasounds, MRI's, HIDA scans, and every other test under the sun. Lori has been hospitalized for nearly two weeks now, and on October 5th, she had surgery which we pray will be the start on her road to recovery. She has requested that her privacy be respected during this sensitive time, primarily due to the sensitive nature of things. She is a single parent and has stressed the importance on the emotional well being of her loved ones. For that reason, we will be very selective as to whom we will share personal details with in regards to anyone wanting to know hospital/home information, as well as posting diagnoses online (we will respond to private messages as we are able to).

What we know at this time is what was discovered on her scans, and results that are still pending. The initial results from her first visit had shown highly abnormal labwork which led the physicians to look at her pancreas, in doing so, numerous suspicious lesions/masses were noted. Another test was ordered to look closer, which led to additional findings; a tumor of the liver, as well as inflammation of the gallbladder. In addition to the things mentioned, her second week hospitalized she ended up with C Diff (which was likely contracted at the hospital, and certainly didn't help in her recovery).

Lori was originally scheduled for surgery around 3pm, but they took her in early around 1pm. They estimated an hour in the operating room to remove the gall bladder, and to remove lesions/masses, as well as take biopsies of surrounding tissues, and do an exploratory surgery to check out everything else. Evidently Lori wanted to make an impact there, because she stole the show in the recover room where they struggled to stabilize her for over five hours. Her blood pressure was dangerously high, and despite giving her every single medication they had to offer, they were unable to control her pain. Sometime around 8pm, they were able to get her BP to a safe level and take her back to her hospital room. Despite her struggles with pain management, she's kept herself in relatively good spirits, all things considered. The biopsy results can take anywhere between 1-3 weeks to come back, which at that time and more definitive treatment plan will be in place. In the meantime, she will be on bed rest and recovering with 5 abdominal incisions. She's hoping to be discharged home soon, which they will do as long as her WBC continues to lower, BP is stable/normal, and her pain can be controlled with oral pain medication.

We are calling upon the same community that Lori has loved, and been loved by, to please show your support. We are trying to raise funds to help alleviate at least some of her stresses while she is faced with such a trying time. She is already facing tremendous medical expenses, which there will be many more to follow. In addition to that, she's unable to work while being sick and she's worried about her child, dogs, and other living expenses. We ask that you help where you can, if even just sharing words of encouragement. She's living in a new state, surrounded by new doctors, and an abundance of stress.

We know that she's a fighter and has overcome so much already. She hasn't let a few days pass without discussing her plans to conquer puppy mills, and expand the rescue. We will do our absolute best to keep everyone up-to-date as we're able to, or whenever Lori isn't feeling well enough to update her Facebook page. Please contact us directly through The Animal Pad's Facebook page if you're interested in a mailing address (for cards and the like).

We are extremely grateful for all of your support.

Here are just a handful of pictures of Lori and some of the dogs whose lives she has touched.

Lori Crosby has rescued an outstanding number of dogs from Devore, San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange County, Los Angeles, San Diego, and many other places. She stood in the rain with pneumonia to make sure the Devore staff would bring Florence, "the brain damaged beagle" inside, so she'd survive until we could rescue her. She was the only person who had shown interest in Valentino, "the chemical burn dog" (the same dog she went to spend time with and pay $3,500 out of pocket toward his bill; on her birthday). She's one of us (crazy, haha); we all do these things that many outside of rescue could ever understand.

It was the same way we were brought together, making TAP what it is today.

TAP Saves Over 30 Dogs in Under 4 Weeks

We are in immediate and desperate need of donations to help support the mass amount of dogs we rescued between July & August. If you're able to donate, or provide a temporary (or permanent) home for any of these wonderful dogs, please let us know!

Thank you so much.

Below are pictures of Daisy; one from the shelter, one after being rescued with puss-filled and swollen eyes, and the bottom right is following her surgery for entropia on all 4 eyelids.

Below is a picture of Ren who was removed from neglectful owners. Ren has zero financial backing, and needs to be neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. Furthermore, we have been struggling to get a diagnosis for his skin condition that comes and goes, this time it's getting worse. The vet has hinted toward an allergy or autoimmune disorder. He will need further testing for a diagnosis (his skin test was negative for mange and other common canine skin conditions)

TAP URGENTLY NEEDS YOUR HELP

PLEASE HELP US!!

This has been our most trying rescue ever, and we need your help immediately to keep going.

On July 18th we agreed to rescue a pit bull momma and her 6 infant puppies, who were approximately 2-3 weeks old. Upon our transporter arriving, we were called and told the Devore shelter staff were preparing to euthanize another family, a shepherd mix with her 5 puppies, who were approximately 12 days old. We also rescued a young terrier, as well as a pomeranian. We saved 15 dogs total, however, the runt of the pit litter passed away. :(

The pit mom is a former bait dog who has suffered and been neglected for too long; she was so infested with fleas her skin is raw, her hair fell out, she's anemic, emaciated, and overall unhealthy. Even after all of that, she still is able to trust humans and not just accept our love, but she is eager for it.

Her puppies are in terrible condition. They were so infested with fleas their mouths were white, including their tongues. They're dehydrated, and have severe URI's. They are covered in welts and sores, and have started to lose chunks of fur like their mom has. Their fleas were embedded so deep we spent dozens of hours pulling them out with tweezers. We had to bathe them all twice per day, too.  The puppies need blood transfusions, but could not have it done until the fleas were gone. We removed as many as we can, and now we need their transfusions done.

The shepherd mom has the worst eye infection where green puss is coming out of them, and she can barely open her eyes. We've spent close to $250 on her medication alone, but she could really benefit from some antibiotic injections to help boost her system. Her puppies also have URI's and will all require medication as well.

Our foster for the pit mom, selflessly stepped up to take in both families to save their lives, but we all knew we would need to do some work to help her accommodate both families. She has a very large finished garage where we need to do work, and she can help us save even more dogs. This is an immediate need, however. We have found large kennels for roughly $300 that we need money for, and we also need a volunteer to help deliver them and set-up, if possible. Furthermore, she has a majority of the work done, but needs help to finish dropping the ducts in for AC and Heat, this will provide the dogs with a temperature controlled environment. Can you help - do you know anyone who can help? PLEASE ask around, this is urgent. Our foster is struggling, Lori (our cofounder) has been staying with the foster to help her out. With the help and generosity of others, if we're able to get this labor work done, we will be able to save many more dogs like this. Our foster is willing to donate this large space, if we're able to get the work done. Please, please, help us make this happen.

Lastly, we are still needing donations of various items:
Towels, Blankets, Beds, Crate Pads/Liners, Wash Rags, Paper Towels
Crates, Kennels, Carriers, Dog Runs
Medications, Supplements, Shampoo (regular, flea, and medicated), Flea, Tick, and Parasite Prevention, Puppy Formula/Milk Replacement
Food, Treats, A/D Critical Care Canned Food, CliniCare Liquid, NutriCal paste, Pill Pockets, Raw Liver (for the anemic moms)
Toys, Bowls, Collars, Harnesses, Leashes, Potty Pads
Bottled Water (for puppy formula), Bottles, Syringes, Brushes, Combs, Tweezers, Q-tips, Cotton Balls, Bandages
....and anything else you can think of!!

At this time, we are faced with thousands of dollars in medical bills and accommodations for these rescued families. We are begging for all of you to please help share this, and to help us get donations, in addition to helping us to find volunteers to assist in the delivery and construction of large kennels, as well as the duct-work for air conditioning.

HOW TO HELP:
If you or anyone you know would be able to help with installing kennels, dog doors, and/or air conditioning ducts, please email Lori@theanimalpad.com right away!

Please help us stay afloat, with your help, we will be able to save even more dogs than we regularly do (with the generous donation of her building from our foster who is willing to help us out by fostering future moms and babies).

While we have rescued countless 'normal' dogs, we focus on abused, injured, neglected, and otherwise special needs dogs. Below are some of the dogs we have saved, and dogs who are deserving of a second chance -- of knowing love and trust.

PIT MOM AND PUPPIES
(You can see her scars, and the damage from the flea infestation)

(This is AFTER removing hundreds upon hundreds of embedded fleas from her head - Embedded fleas do not come off even when dead, you can't scrape or comb them off, they must be removed with tweezers...We spent every night doing this, sitting up until 6-7am pulling fleas out of these babies)

Orphaned Pit Babies

Four Week Old Pit Bull Orphans

Yesterday these 5 orphans were rescued from a very dangerous situation. For now, details are being withheld as officials have been called. There may be more coming in the future, and we will be seeking the assistance of our rescue colleagues to help save more of these dogs. They were removed from a home that exploits this breed for profit and entertainment, thankfully, we were able to save these darling babies before they were forced down the same (sometimes deadly) path as their parents. They're sweet, loving, normal, and healthy little puppies!! :)

We urgently need donations to pay for their veterinary care, vaccinations, spay x 2, neuter x 3, and microchips. We need fosters for them as well. An experienced foster for the runt will be required as he needs assistance being fed until he's able to do so on his own.

Please contact us if you're able to help at info@theanimalpad.com

Helping Ziggy

Ziggy is a precious little long-haired Chihuahua puppy. At a very young age of 12 weeks, he's faced with medical problems. Ziggy started to display symptoms about a week ago with seizures. Upon examination, his vet has noted abnormalities with his heart, and further testing is required. This will take up to $600 (roughly) to do.

Ziggy's life saving foster mommy has been providing him with the best care (and has extreme levels of experience with seizures). She saved two adult females and one male from abusive owners in the San Bernardino area. The owner wanted to dump them at the shelter, which she's so loving, she prevented. Soon thereafter, each female dog had a litter of puppies; with a grand total of six baby chihuahuas!

Lucy made numerous pleas for the help from rescue organizations, and TAP stepped up to help her out. We love having Lucy on-board, as well as her large chihuahua family. We would greatly appreciate a donation of any kind to help out with the cost of Ziggy's medical testing and future care. The bill may get larger, but this is our estimate for now, so that's what I am posting.

Please contact Lori if you have any questions.

Go to our Facebook Page to see pictures of all of the puppies. If you're interested in adopting or fostering any of the TAP dogs, please send an email. For adoptions click HERE, for fosters click HERE.

Thank you!

Below are copies of his vet papers in addition to a few adorable pictures. :)
